Biophilia

Did you know that Mexico ranks fifth in the world in biodiversity? Here you may encounter some 1000 birds, 450 mammals, 640 reptiles, and insects numbering in the hundreds of thousands!

Biophilia (literally "love of life") is a term popularized by E.O. Wilson to describe our innate love of, and emotional need for, all things living. Even a single plant in the room of a sick person has been shown to favourably affect his health. Imagine the benefits in living in a place so full of nature as the Yucatan peninsula.

Sacbe resident Cam subscribes to the theory of biophfilia, and decided to count the number of different critters he encountered in his daily life. After four months of casual observation he topped 500. Here are just some of the photos he took in documenting the incredible fauna of Pueblo SacBe.
